SELF-EVALUATION PROJECT – PPG CLASSICAL LANGUAGES/USP
Know thyself.
Delphic maxim
- Self-Evaluation
Self-evaluation should be understood as a process complementary to the external evaluation to which postgraduate programs are subject, aiming at the enhancement of competencies through self-knowledge and internal critique. These competencies are not limited to the training of researchers and the production of knowledge—core activities of postgraduate education—but also encompass student development.
Self-evaluation provides an opportunity for an internal examination that encompasses the perceptions of faculty, students, alumni, and administrative support staff, forming an overview of the program’s strengths and weaknesses. From this, actions can be formulated to strengthen or address these areas, guiding the program's strategic planning.
Self-evaluation follows a biennial calendar to foster medium- and long-term goals and objectives, adhering to the Evaluation Policy of the National Postgraduate System, managed by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).
- Implementation
The first action aimed at the self-evaluative process is the establishment of a Self-Evaluation Committee for the PPG Classical Languages, which must consist of at least three members: one faculty representative, its coordinator, one student representative, and a technical-administrative staff member. The members, to be appointed by the Program Coordinating Committee, will be responsible for implementing the process, establishing the dimensions to be evaluated, setting guidelines for analyzing the generated data, and drafting the report that consolidates the results from consultations with documents and PPG members. The term of office should align with CAPES’s four-year evaluation cycle to incorporate external evaluation into the process and respond accordingly.
- Self-Evaluation Process: Methodology and Consolidation of Results
The self-evaluation process will consist of five stages, as outlined below:
3.1 Document Analysis: Program Regulations; CPG Bylaws; Academic Project of the Unit and Department; Lattes Curricula; Sucupira Platform.
3.2 Preparation and Application of Questionnaires: differentiated questionnaires for faculty, students, alumni, and technical-administrative staff; raising awareness among PPG members about the importance of participating in the process.
3.3 Analysis and Systematization of Information: constructing a database using information generated from document analysis and online questionnaires. These elements will be transcribed, tabulated, and quantitatively systematized in graphs, tables, images, and diagrams, and qualitatively in argumentative blocks, forming thematic panels.
3.4 Presentation of Preliminary Results to the Academic Community: making preliminary results available for discussion in self-evaluation seminars open to the community (both internal and external).
3.5 Preparation of the Self-Evaluation Report: observations and suggestions arising from self-evaluation seminars will be gathered and systematized into a critical-analytical document representative of the collaborative internal evaluation process regarding the strengths, weaknesses, and potentials of the PPG Classical Languages. This document will guide the actions to be implemented in subsequent years, translated into goals and plans integrated into the Program's Strategic Planning, and ensure the continuity of the self-evaluation process itself. The report will be widely disseminated on the PPG website.
